[pharmacological action] this product is an electrolyte supplement. In animals, sodium is a very important cation in extracellular fluid and an important component to maintain the osmotic pressure and capacity of extracellular fluid. Sodium forms a buffer system in the form of sodium bicarbonate, which also plays an important role in regulating the acid-base balance of body fluids. The normal concentration of sodium ion in extracellular fluid is a necessary condition for maintaining cell excitability and neuromuscular stress. A large amount of sodium loss in the body can cause hyponatremia syndrome, which is characterized by general weakness, apathy, muscle spasm, circulatory disorders, and even coma until death. In addition, hypertonic sodium chloride solution after intravenous injection can reflexively excite the vagus nerve, excite gastrointestinal smooth muscle and strengthen peristalsis.

[adverse reactions]
(1) Too much and too fast infusion can cause water and sodium retention, edema, elevated blood pressure and accelerated heart rate.
(2) Too much or too fast administration of hypotonic sodium chloride can cause hemolysis and brain edema.
[precautions]
(1) It is forbidden for animals with pulmonary edema.
(2) Animals with brain, kidney and heart dysfunction and low plasma protein should be used with caution.
(3) The concentration of chloride ion contained in this product is higher than that in plasma, and acidosis has occurred in animals. If widely used, it can cause hyperchlorinated acidosis. At this time, sodium bicarbonate and normal saline can be used.
