【Main components】Streptomycin sulfate
【Appearance】This product is a white or off-white powder.
【Pharmacological effects】Pharmacodynamics belongs to aminoglycoside antibiotics, its mechanism of action and antibacterial spectrum are similar to other aminoglycoside antibiotics. By interfering with the bacterial protein synthesis process, resulting in the synthesis of abnormal proteins and hindering the release of synthesized proteins. In addition, it can also increase the permeability of bacterial cell membranes, leading to the leakage of some important physiological substances, ultimately causing bacterial death.
Streptomycin has antibacterial effects on tubercle bacilli and many Gram-negative bacilli, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Brucella, Pasteurella, Shigella dysenteriae, and glanders bacilli. It has poor effects on most Gram-positive cocci such as Staphylococcus aureus. Streptococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and anaerobic bacteria are inherently resistant to this product.
Pharmacokinetics Intramuscular injection is well absorbed, reaching peak blood concentration in 0.5-2 hours. At commonly used doses, effective blood concentration can be maintained for 6-12 hours. It is mainly distributed in extracellular fluid, and can reach bile, pleural fluid, ascites, tuberculous pus cavity and caseous tissue, and can also pass through the placental barrier. The highest concentration is in the kidney, less in the lung and muscle, and almost undetectable in the brain tissue (about 4% of serum concentration in horses). Protein binding rate is 20%-30%. This product is mainly excreted in the original form through glomerular filtration in the body, with high concentration in urine, and a small amount excreted from bile. After intramuscular injection, the elimination half-life of streptomycin in horses and buffaloes is 2.4-3.1 hours; in cattle, dairy goats and pigs, it is 3.8-4.8 hours.
【Drug interactions】(1) Use with caution when combined with other drugs with nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity and neurotoxicity, such as amphotericin, other aminoglycosides, polymyxin B, etc.
(2) When used with loop diuretics (furosemide) or osmotic diuretics (mannitol), the ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity of aminoglycosides can be enhanced.
(3) Combined use with general anesthetics or neuromuscular blockers can enhance neuromuscular conduction blockade.
(4) Combined use with penicillins or cephalosporins has a synergistic effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and enterococci, and may have an additive effect on other bacteria.
【Action and use】Aminoglycoside antibiotics. Mainly used to treat infections caused by sensitive Gram-negative bacteria and tubercle bacilli.
【Usage and dosage】Calculated as streptomycin. Intramuscular injection: Single dose, 10-15mg per kg body weight for livestock. Twice a day, for 2-3 consecutive days.
【Adverse reactions】(1) Ototoxicity. Streptomycin most commonly causes vestibular damage, which can worsen with the accumulation of continuously administered drugs and is dose-dependent.
(2) Neuromuscular blockade caused by excessive dosage.
(3) Long-term use can cause kidney damage.
【Precautions】(1) Streptomycin has cross-allergenicity with other aminoglycosides, and should not be used in animals allergic to aminoglycosides.
(2) Use with caution in animals with dehydration (which can lead to increased drug concentration) or kidney damage.
(3) When treating urinary tract infections with this product, carnivores and omnivores can take sodium bicarbonate orally at the same time to make the urine alkaline, so as to enhance the efficacy.
(4) Cations such as Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, NH4+ and K+ can inhibit the antibacterial activity of this class of drugs.
(5) Combined use with cephalosporins, dextran, potent diuretics (such as furosemide), erythromycin, etc., can enhance the ototoxicity of this class of drugs.
(6) Skeletal muscle relaxants (such as succinylcholine chloride) or drugs with such effects can enhance the neuromuscular blockade effect of this class of drugs.
